New brand displays what’s unique about our community

In my most recent Branding OHIO byline, I shared some guidelines for using the new brand elements “it’s you” and the brackets. While developing the brand theme and graphic elements, we wanted to ensure that there was flexibility incorporated into the design. Our hope was that the design would provide a variety of options for our various constituencies while signifying the importance of the wide range of diversity and sense of community across the University.

More than 40 OHIO students and a dozen alumni contributed to the creation of “it’s you” promotional materials, including the letterforms and production of new commercials both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras.


There are seven different letterforms for “it’s you.” Each of them has a unique style and personality while reflecting the distinctive qualities that exist in our students. The brackets as a type treatment represent an individual’s ability to find what they need at Ohio University. Whatever they are looking for, they can find it here and place it within the brackets. In photos, brackets highlight the importance of the individual, while being a part of the broader OHIO community. The official OHIO color palette is used in promotional materials. OHIO Green, Pantone 342, is the primary color, with colors from the secondary palette serving as accents. All of the creative materials in the campaign are engaging and lively, enabling us to show the individuality of our students by using different combinations of colors and letterforms.

UCM wants to work with our University partners to develop distinctive ways “it’s you” and related elements such as the brackets can be used appropriately to promote your unit.
